Using your phone as a mobile hotspot

While away from your home broadband connection, using your iOS or Android phone can be a valuable tool to keep your computer, tablet, and other devices connected to the internet.

How to enable a hotspot

Here’s how to enable the mobile hotspot feature on your iOS or Android device.

  1. To turn your Apple phone into a Hotspot, start by opening “Settings” by tapping the gear icon.
  2. Select “Personal Hotspot” from the menu.
  3. Then tap the slider next to “Allow Others to Join” so that it’s green.

 

hotspot screenshotAfter turning the hotspot on, you will be given instructions for how to connect your computer and/or other devices using WiFi, Bluetooth, or via USB.

Follow the prompts for whichever method you choose to use to connect your computer and/or another device you would like to connect to the internet.

Android

  1. For Android devices, open “Settings,” and tap “Connections” from the menu.
  2. Select “Mobile Hotspot and Tethering.
  3. Tap “Mobile Hotspot” and toggle the switch to on.

 

You should see the name of your hotspot and password needed to connect your Android device close to the bottom of the screen.

Go to the WiFi menu on the device you would like to connect to the internet.

Select your mobile device from the list of WiFi networks available, enter the password on your phone, you should be connected to the internet soon after.
